Climate-aware travel planning
Doha and Dubai sit in nearly identical desert climates with one wrinkle — Doha runs slightly hotter at the summer peak and gets occasional spring thunderstorms (a local phenomenon called Al Sarayat). Both cities reward shoulder-season travelers with cheaper fares and better award space.
November to March
Cool, dry, low humidity. Highest cash fares; tightest award availability. Book six to eight months ahead. December is Doha's busiest tourist month, anchored by Qatar National Day on the 18th; the Dubai Shopping Festival runs January through February. Best for outdoor sightseeing, the Doha Corniche, and desert excursions.
April and October
Warm, manageable. Mid-tier fares and better Qsuite award availability open up. Sea temperatures peak around 28°C in October. Watch for occasional Al Sarayat thunderstorms in April around Doha; both hubs see brief dust events.
May and September
Hot, rising humidity. Discounted fares and more J/F award seats. Best for indoor-led itineraries — Museum of Islamic Art and National Museum of Qatar in Doha, the Louvre Abu Dhabi day trip from Dubai, or pure stopover travel.
June to August
Extreme heat and humidity. Lowest fares of the year across both carriers and broadest award availability. Ideal for stopover travelers, points hunters, and indoor itineraries. June 16, 2026 marks the return of Qatar's A380 service on DOH-LHR and DOH-BKK after the spring grounding — first-class award seats may open as the schedule stabilizes.
Qatar's A380 First Class will be limited to only two routes (London and Bangkok) from June through mid-September 2026, with Paris, Singapore, and Sydney returning on September 16. If you want the upper-deck A380 first class product, target those specific routes.
Emirates' new A350-1000 entered service in Q1 2026 on Dubai–Bologna and Dubai–Mumbai. For Europe or India travelers in spring or summer, these routes will give you the newest cabin product in the fleet.
